Hard heavy straight grained wood with a fine texture. Sapwood is white and selected for its color, heartwood is light reddish brown. Irregular grain often makes this wood somewhat difficult to work with. Very strong and lightweight a 36" mahl weights about 4 ounces. Found in the USA.
